Myra is located between Finike and Kas, about 25 km away from Finike and 48 km from Kas. It was on my way when i drove back from Antalya. There was also a parking space for free. Entrance fee was 5 YTL.

The history of Myra can be traced back until the 5th century BC. It was one of the six most important cities of Lykia. Myra has once been a sea port but because of alluvia of the Demre-river it is now located a few kilometers away from the sea. Even the theatre that is in very good condition was covered by some meters of mud before it was excavated by the German Archeologist Prof. Borchhardt. The Turkish supervisor of the excavation area who took part in the excavation tells about it very proudly just as about his journeys with the British explorer G. E. Bean.

Behind the impressing theatre, which was also used for fights with animals in Roman times, you can see great rock tombs, very impressing. Moreover you can look at the church of the Holy Nicolas in Myra. It is located directly in the city of Demre.

They are very proud to have this memorial place in Turkey. They excavated the church out of the mud of the river. There is the legend of this holy man on a big sign and also his statue on the surroundings of the church.
