In the outer part of Selcuk on the right hand side of the main road and after the fortress of Selcuk down the mountain you can see the Isabey Mosque.
This mosque that was built in 1375 by the architect Ali of Damascus by order of Isa Bey who is a member of the Aydinogullari has an important role in Turkish arts history. It has a big atrium where you can enjoy the beautiful garden with many colorful flowers. In the middle of the building there is the entrance to the mosque. Entrance is for free as long as you keep to the rules regarding clothes. Ladies have to cover themselves and everybody has to take off their shoes. You don't have to leave your shoes outside the mosque you can also carry them around with you in your hand. In the inside you can look at a mosque that is in a good condition with nicely decorated walls and ceiling. By the way: on the other side of the mosque there is some kind of family meeting point. You can meet native people there in the evening. It has got a very comfortable atmosphere with a fountain, seating on the floor, surrounded by straw mats. You should make a reservation as this "restaurant" is often packed.
