Today Selcuk is a modern city displaying a tourist center. The offer of trips is various. Primarily you can find some kind of pilgrim tourism here. According to tales Mary, Jesus' mother, came to Ephesus together with Johannes after Jesus' death and lived there until she died. I am able to tell about Selcuk as a private living place (about what I am very happy), life is very nice here as the city is available for tourists but not overrun. The next beach is about 8 km away from Ephesus (Pamucak, public beach). You only have to drive straight on (don't turn left at the traffic circle!). By the way in 2002 there has also been Bernie Eclestone at exact that place. He looked the place over for a possible Formula 1 location. If you want to go out and have fun you should go to Kusadasi which is about 18 km away. There is a lot of turbulence for the big cruisers also anchor there. You can stroll the promenade and make night to day. But if you are male, single and not looking like a tourist you could get disappointed when trying to enter a disco. No entrance without female accompany! But maybe this has changed now that economy is low. Most of the tourists come from England. But let's get back to Selcuk!

You should take your time to explore the area and also except for the world famous Ephesus visit the Artemis Temple, Meryem Ana, Isabey Mosque, the museum and of course the village Sirince. It lies up in the mountains about 7 im behind Selcuk. You can also reach it very easily with a Dolmus not only by car.

I can recommend the "Aqualand" to people with children. Aqualand is a water park with a big area and many attractions. A big parking space is available for free. The entrance fee was 20 YTL (about 11 Euro) in 2002. They also accept credit cards. It is beneath the "old" way from Selcuk to Kusadasi. You cannot miss it. Except for this one there is also another water park. It is located only 1 km above in direction to Kusadasi.

You have to visit the bazaar (Pazar) in Selcuk every Saturday. There is a wide range of clothes but like everywhere in Turkey you should look at it carefully! If you like something you should deal about the price (please also look at advisor). You can get money directly in the pedestrian area at the bank or the post office. There are also international festivals at the big place next to it. On the ancient columns are former Roman water pipes on which you can often watch storks that have their nests up there. The "old bus station" is in the middle of Selcuk, you can depart from it very cheap to many directions. The busses are very comfortable and also allow journeys further away. The new bus station might also be ready and is directed a bit out of town. Tourist information is located at the big crossing from Selcuk to Ephesus. Opposite to it is the Ephesus museum which is also worth visiting it. The town's landmark is likely the fortress where you can find glass and water cisterns. Unfortunately it is closed for visitors.
