Fethiye is my preferred area for holiday. It doesn't matter where I have been to I always want to come back into the direction of Fethiye. The area is bordered by Sövalye (Chevalier) Island, Günlükbari and the mount on the opposite direction. There are a lot of things you can do in Fethiye. You can visit historical places, just relax or discover many things. Once we were at a hotel near Ölü Deniz called SunCity, it was last minute booked. The hotel wasn't located at the beach but they had a private bay 2-3 km away and they took you there via shuttle bus every hour. The stay was very pleasant and we did not have any complaints. Some years ago when I was there for the first time I was looking for a hotel and was really lucky. I discovered a hotel called Horizon directly at the steep rocks. You cannot imagine how much this name fitted the hotel. The view of my little balcony was great. Small, cheap, clean, everything ok. For breakfast we got a typical Turkish meal with bread, jam, olives, feta and butter.

Roch tombs

You can find rock tombs and sarcophagi quite often in the area of Fethiye. One of them is still directly in Fethiye next to the city administration. You can also visit a small museum. But the main attraction are the rock tombs that are made directly out of the rock face. You can see them very easily from Fethiye.

Butterfly-Valley

Kelebekler Vadisi is about 3-4 km away from Ölüdeniz, you can reach it with a boat. It is surrounded by 350 m high mountains. This valley that nearly looks like a canyon is the place where countless butterflies live during July, August and September, among which is e.g. the "Jersey Tiger".

Ölü Deniz

Ölü Deniz is THE beach, you can say it is the best in Turkey. It is away 14 km from the city center of Fethiye and you can reach it all day long with one of the small busses (Dolmus) but it's not to recommend during summer. Most people don't like the transpiring person sitting next to them in the dolmus. You can go swimming in Ölü Deniz for 10 months a year. There are many restaurants, shopping centers with medical service, shower cabins, toilets and so on, as well as some tourist places. Please note: Be careful when lying in the sun it is really dangerous in summer.

Sakli Kent

You should have seen Sakli Kent at least once. It's about 40 km away from Fethiye and even the journey to Sakli Kent is worthy doing it. It leads through a very green landscape. You can't imagine for quite a long time that there could be any canyons. But suddenly the mountains come nearer and nearer and you drive towards them. Then you just have to drive down a steep road and park your car. If you visit Sakli Kent for the first time you should not underestimate the coolness of the water that comes out of crevices. I will never forget when I couldn't feel my legs when I was in the middle of the river. Then I had to walk on fast... At the other side you cannot see much. But it is possible to wander into the canyon for about 15 km. The water is really great. It is that clear and clean that you can even drink it!

Çalış Beach

Calis Beach is a 4 km long beach 5 km away from Fethiye, which is very famous even abroad for its sunsets. Every evening it gets a bit cooler by a soft breeze and you can watch the sea turtle Caretta breeding its babies here. Nice hotels and restaurants make this area one of the most visited places for recreation.

Göcek

Göcek is 30 km away from Fethiye directly at the road to Muğla. The sympathetic little fishermen's village is on its way to become a tourist center. Especially yachting tourism gets more and more important. The natural harbor surrounded by forested hills, the nearby antic settlements and many little bays, lochs and islands make this holiday area very attractive.

Kaya village

Kaya village is a Greek city built by Kamillassos in the 14th century and today totally destroyed by a earthquake (just some tombs that look like houses did remain). Its old name is Levissi and as long as it existed it was always on friendly terms with the 5 Turkish villages around it. In the year 1922 Turkey and Greece undersigned a treaty for resettlement. So the Greek inhabitants of Kaya village and the Turkish inhabitants of West Thracia changed their homes.

You can find pictures of Fethiye at the gallery.
