Kangal dog
Name and origin of the kangal dog is central Anatolia, province Sivas. It is a big, strong dog with heavy bone structure. He is some kind of "national dog" of Turkey and a recognized race since 1998. From its origin it is a sheperd's dog, to protect sheep and goats from predators. Its coat is grey-brown to steel-grey. It is watchful and used to defend animals which he should look after and parts of the family to which it has a strong relationship. He is not aggressive towards humans but faithful and loving towards family members. A grown-up male dog is about 76 and 81 cm tall and weighs 50 to 65 kg, a female dog is between 71 and 76 cm tall and weighs 40 to 55 kg.
The Van cat
The special characteristic of the van cat is said to be the two eyes of different colour and the white coat. Getting to Europe, better to say England, as a souvenir it was breeded from that time on. But this particular cat had a red mark on its head and a red, bushy tail. They are very active, but also very jovial and have a strong relationship to humans. They are good hunters. Another specialty of them is that they are not afraid of water. They would even go fishing if they needed to like in their former home at lake Van. They are also very funny when drinking water: they take the water up with their paws and then lick it off their paws.
