At the day of the brith the boy wears a long white shirt. This shirt sometimes is given as a present by the "Kirve" (that's the man who lets the boy sit on his lap).

The way it is performed has changed a lot. Today it is mostly made by a professional "Sünetci" or by a doctor at the hospital. In former days it was not completely like this although it was also a "Sünetci" who did it. But the important difference is: Today the boys get anesthesia at home as well as at the hospital. In former days it was quite cruel. The boy was simply held by the "Kirve" so that the "Sünetci" was able to complete his job. A very stupid distraction was to tell the boy "Look! There's a bird!" ("Bak, bak, kusa bak!!". As if he didn't know what was happening to him. When everything is done the boy relaxes on a nicely decorated bed. The guests that are invited give gold coins or money in an envelop that is put under the pillow as a present to the boy. Then everybody eats and dances.
