Tea room Print

If you say tea room you mean the "Kahve" which you can find nearly everywhere. It is not the nice little cafe you and I know. There is rather the men's meeting point to chat a bit of to dring "cay" and play games like the very popular "Okey", cards or "Tavla" (Backgammon). Moreover you can talk about the news of the area there. You can also smoke a waterpipe (Nargile) in these Kahves. Even jobs are placed there, because if someone needs a day labourer he searches for him there. Women normally do not sit around these places. Only if they search their husband they would look here first. I would not advice women from Europe to drink tea there. It is not forbidden but you will earn according glances. It also is not very comfortable, the windows are dirty, the seats made of wood, it is very noisy and the air is filled with smoke.
