It takes place during rutting season in December, January, February and March in the provinces Aydin, Izmir, Manisa, Mugla, Denizli, Blikesir, Canakkale, Burdur, Isparta and Antalya.
Camel Wrestling in Turkey are battles with camels at which male camels (Tülü), which are mixed from females with one hunch and males with two hunches, fight for the favour of the female camels.
Winner is the camel that makes its competitor
1. run away,
2. scream and
3. fall down.
But it is also possible that the camels part in a tie. The owner of the camel can also stop the battle if he fears that his camel could be hurt. To do this he throws a rope into the middle of the arena to say that he capitulates. The other camel is proclaimed as the winner immediately.
A camel only fights once a day. One fight lasts for 10-15 minutes. These rules are made to conserve, preserve and protect the fighting camels.
A competition without any blood, as they tell other persons. But Turkish animal welfare campaigns think it is not like this. They have protested against this as they think "cruel sports" for decades.
