Turkish is for 90 % of the Turkish population the native language. Between the other languages there are different dialects like Caucasian and Kurdish as well as up to 70 different languages and dialects, among them Arab, Greek and Armenian. Today, Turkish is under nearly 4000 spoken languages in the world the 7th most frequent spoken language and it is spoken form more than 200 mio. people in the world.

After the establishment of the Republic and the foundation of the national unity, especially in the years from 1923- 1928, became the Alphabet a central topic in Turkey. To lead the new Turkey to a modern civilization level, saw the founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk the necessity of the orientation at western culture. In 1928 he introduced with this aim instead of the Arabic alphabet the latin letters, which where adapted to the Turkish tone order.

The letters q – w – Ä- ß don’t exist in the Turkish language. In addition it’s like in the English – only with the start of a sentence it is largely written. The letter X has got a separate position. It doesn’t exist in the Turkish, but instead of this “ks” is replaced. E.g. : Taxi = TaksiFor your next Turkey-Vacation I summarized you a „mini“ dictionary.

I just want you to offer a little assistance and support for a Holiday in Turkey. In Turkey it makes quite impression, if you’ll bring along certain knowledge, in this way you can show your interest and respect. Please, always remember to pronounce everything as clearly as it stands there (excepted the ğ)The whole vocabulary is written b y myself and translated. By the extent it assumed meanwhile it could be that a few mistakes have crept.
