When entering Turkey you can take the following things for your own use along with you:


• 1 camera
• 1 colour television with max. 16 cm screen
• 1 combined black/white television-radio
• 1 video camera with 5 empty cassettes
• 1 CD-player with 5 CDs
• 1 laptop, ram 128 Kbyte
• 1 film camera (8 mm) with 10 new films
• 1 binocular (nightview forbidden)
• harmonica, mandolin, flute, guitar, mouth organ (max. 3 instruments per person)
• 1 walkman
• 1 slide projector
• 1 combined radio-cassette player
• car-fixing tools, sports articles, games and computer games
• 1 typing machine
• buggy and toys
• 200 cigarettes and 50 cigars
• 200 g tobacco
• 200 piece cigarette paper
• 50 g snuff

Additionally you can buy further 400 cigarettes, 100 cigars and 500 g tobacco in the duty free shop.

• 1,5 kg coffee
• 1,5 kg instant coffee
• 500 g tea
• 1 kg chocolate and 1 kg sweets
• 5 bottles (100cc) or 7 bottles (70cc) alcoholic drinks
• 5 bottles perfume (max. 120 ml per bottle)

Valuables (jewellery worth over 15 000 $) will be recorded in your passport by entering Turkey and controlled when leaving.

It is forbidden:
to import weapons and any kind of knifes (even for camping) without special permission.
to import, sell and use drugs. Violations will be punished.
If you take antiques with you you should declare them when entering. Otherwise there might be problems when leaving. Presents worth 250 € are not to declare. Furthermore you can send presents by mail worth 250 € on Christmas, New Years Eve, Kurban Bayrami (sacrifice holiday) and seker bayrami (sugar holiday beginning at the end of Ramadan) (one month before or after the holiday).

When leaving Turkey you must regard the following:

• If you want to take a new carpet with you you must take a invoice with you. If you want to take old things with you you need to have an official certificate issued by the directory of a museum.
• It is strictly forbidden to export antiquities.
• You are only allowed to export valuables if they were recorded in your passport or bought with officially changed money.
• You are only allowed to export minerals and fossils with permission of the Institute for Mineable Resources and Research. It is best not even taking stones from the beach.

Payback of VAT:
If you do not live in Turkey and if you plan to leave Turkey within 3 months, VAT will be paid back for the goods you bought during this period. Shops, which write out the needed invoices, have accordant hint hung out. If you are a Turkish citizen but living abroad you need to show your residence permit. The amount of the things you bought needs to be at least 3 YTL if you want payback. After buying you get a invoice with 2 copies, which have accounted VAT separately. All 3 copies need to be acknowledged by the Customs when leaving, 2 copies will remain at the Customs. You will get the VAT via:

1. bank transfer
2. money order
3. entering again Turkey
